You twist and ignore scripture. ...to Rick Lannoye:

You twist and ignore scripture. God doesn't do this to hurt us. We choose Hell on our own. We do this to ourselves.

The scripture you quote is support for you un-biblical belief. The part you quote, which isn't in verse 55 in all old manuscripts, says "...for the Son of man came not to destroy men's lives but to save them." It says nothing about heal and relieve suffering.
Only those that choose Him will be saved.

Catholics use the whole of the Bible when interpreting scripture. What you ... conjure up ... from this passage does not jive with the rest of scripture.

GeorgeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4804111164949504716.post-39050639066547738852010-05-28T11:35:24.732-07:002010-05-28T11:35:24.732-07:00No, it's the doctrine of Hell that is the real...No, it's the doctrine of Hell that is the real moral danger here!

In direct contradiction to EVERYTHING Jesus actually taught us about what God is like, the belief that God would ever hurt anyone, much less torture, much much less torture billions for eternity, invalidates every sense of goodness we would otherwise attribute to the Creator.

This hideous belief exists solely because MAN wants to make God evil, so he can then justify the way he abuses and sometimes tortures his fellow, rejecting the teachings of Jesus to RELIEVE the suffering of others, no matter who they are or what they've done!

I've actually written an entire book on this topic--Hell? No! Why You Can Be Certain There's No Such Place As Hell, (for anyone interested, you can get a free ecopy of Did Jesus Believe in Hell?, one of the most compelling chapters in my book at www.thereisnohell.com), but if I may, let me share just one of the many points I make in it to explain why.

If one is willing to look, there's substantial evidence contained in the gospels to show that Jesus opposed the idea of Hell. For example, in Luke 9:51-56, is a story about his great disappointment with his disciples when they actually suggested imploring God to rain FIRE on a village just because they had rejected him. His response: "You don't know what spirit is inspiring this kind of talk!" Presumably, it was NOT the Holy Spirit. He went on, trying to explain how he had come to save, heal and relieve suffering, not be the CAUSE of it.

So it only stands to reason that this same Jesus, who was appalled at the very idea of burning a few people, for a few horrific minutes until they were dead, could never, ever burn BILLIONS of people for an ETERNITY!Rick Lannoyehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15771612313060169125noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4804111164949504716.post-71770101789882316512010-05-27T18:48:42.297-07:002010-05-27T18:48:42.297-07:00May the Lord bless our nation with repentance and ...May the Lord bless our nation with repentance and our hearts with godly sorrow.
